James Flasar, DVM

Dr. James J. Flasar is a General Practitioner and the owner of Chesterfield Veterinary Center since 1978.

A native of Collinsville, Illinois, Dr. Flasar says that his decision to pursue a career in veterinary medicine stems from an early and genuine fondness for animals, their health and wellbeing as well as an interest in medical science. Now that he is a veterinarian, he finds the variety of medical and surgical challenges that he deals with on a daily basis very rewarding. He also enjoys the need for constant continuing education in order to stay abreast of new treatment modalities.

For his undergraduate studies, Dr. Flasar attended Saint Louis University where he graduated in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science. He then enrolled in the university of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine where he won recognition by induction into the Phi Zeta Honor Society. He received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1974.

Dr. Flasar's areas of special professional interest include orthopedic and general surgery and internal medicine. He is a member of the Greater Saint Louis Veterinary Medical Association, Missouri Veterinary Medical Association, American Veterinary Medical Association and the Society of Aquatic Veterinary Medicine.

Dr. Flasar has two adult children, Lisa and Jon, and three grandchildren, Alyssa, Andrew and Finley. He also provides a home for two rescued cats named Mama Ditty and Dumb Ditty. His interests include running, biking, scuba diving, and underwater photography. In particular, he enjoys diving in the South Pacific where he routinely encounters a range of shark species.

Joe Holzhauer, DVM

Dr. Joe Holzhauer is a General Practitioner who has been with Chesterfield Veterinary Center since 2006.

Originally from Milwaukee and then Green Bay, Wisconsin, Dr. Holzhauer says that he has wanted to be a veterinarian since working in a veterinary hospital at age 15. Now that he is a veterinarian he says he enjoys everything about it, "The medicine, such as figuring out the medical puzzles, the connections I make with clients, and the thrill of helping pets."

For his undergraduate studies, Dr. Holzhauer first attended the University of Southern California and then the University of Missouri – Columbia. After being granted early admission to veterinary school he left his undergraduate studies to attend the University of Missouri – Columbia College of Veterinary Medicine. He received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2000. During his time in veterinary school he received the Iams/VECCS Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Award and the University of Missouri – Columbia Veterinary Cardiology Award.

His areas of special professional interest include cardiology, emergency and critical care, and surgery. Dr. Holzhauer is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, American Animal Hospital Association, American Association of Corporate and Public Practice Veterinarians, Missouri Veterinary Medical Association, Missouri Academy of Veterinary Practice and the Greater Saint Louis Veterinary Medical Association, and the Society of Critical Care Medicine.

In addition to his medical degree, Dr. Holzhauer holds a a Master's of Business Administration and a Master's of Project Management. He also is a member of Stray Rescue of Saint Louis, Humane Society of the United States and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

He and his wife, Jennifer, have a border collie mix named Parker, a Husky mix named Penny, and a terrier mix named Pepa. All are rescues. Dr. Holzhauer's interests include basketball, photography, ham radio, computer programming, and movies.
